The Lifetime Network is premiering its much awaited movie “Betty & Coretta” on February 2nd 2013 at 8pm EST. The movie highlights the lives of Dr. Betty Shabazz the wife of Malcolm X and Coretta Scott King, wife of Dr. Martin Luther King. Both women are civil rights activists. They have played vital roles in shaping Black history and culture. Dr. Betty Shabazz will be played by singer Mary J. Blige and Coretta Scott King will be played by award winning actress Angela Bassett. The movie has drawn positive accolades for the network as many are holding watch parties for the premier. This is an excellent way to jumpstart 2013 Black History Month.

  1. When it comes to performers, athletes, singers, actors, etc., we use superlatives to describe what they do. I have no superlatives for to describe Angela Bassett. When you look at the performance history of Ms Bassett what you see is an actor that has played some of the most iconic Black women of our time. Tina Turner, Dr. Betty Shabazz, Katherine Jackson, Rosa Parks, and now Coretta Scott King.

I don’t know what superlatives history will bestow on Angela Bassett, but I suggest that if an actor gives an “Angela Bassett” performance, that may be the highest compliment there is.
