Stevie Wonder Scolds Lil Wayne For Offensive Lyrics About Emmett Till

Rapper Lil Wayne has recently came under fire for his recent lyrics in the remix of the song “Karate Chop”. Wayne likened the murder of Emmett Till to rough sexual acts. Airickca Gordon-Taylor, a member of the Till family recently responded to the lyrics by demanding an official apology. According to Billboard.com, Epic CEO LA Reid apologized to Gorden-Taylor on the phone, joined with Rev. Jesse Jackson. However, Lil Wayne has yet to personally apologize.

The Huffington Post reports that Stevie Wonder stated, “Sometimes people have to put themselves in the place of people who they are talking about,” Wonder said. “Imagine if that happened to your mother, brother, daughter or your son. How would you feel? Have some discernment before we say certain things. That goes for me or any other (song)writer.”

Emmett Till’s murder shook the nation, when he was brutally slaughtered and tortured in Mississippi for allegedly whistling at a white woman. He was only 14 years old. This is not the first time Lil Wayne has been reprimanded for his offensive lyrics. He also came under fire in 2009 for the song “Whip it like a slave” in which he compared slavery whippings to whipping up drugs.

  1. He (Li'l Wayne), apparently doesn't know his
History! Sad, because he's a Louisiana Native and a product of his environment. I haven't researched his life story, so I'll reserve my comments for now. Still sad.

  2. It is a shame when folks pop a beat and rap about something so terrible that happened..#weneedtoknowourblackhistory.

  3. What you composed made a ton of sense. However, what about this?
what if you composed a catchier title? I ain’t suggesting your information is not solid, however what if you added something to possibly get people’s attention?
