New York, NY (May 2, 2013) — swim swim swim I SAY’s President/CEO, Agnes Davis, is the only female, minority owned, Harlem/Upper Manhattan NYC-based swimming company that has been awarded a grant to teach quality swimming lessons in Harlem/Upper Manhattan.

Agnes Davis, also an instructor of swim swim swim I SAY says, “We are so excited and grateful that Make a Splash chose swim swim swim I SAY to help decrease the drowning rates of individuals through free swimming lessons. What makes this opportunity important to us is: 1) we are going to be able to impact people that need to be reached 2) we will bring awareness to how swimming is not a luxury but a necessity and 3) anyone, even those with a fear of water, will not be left on the side of the pool. Everyone will receive instruction and become more comfortable in the water due to our success and expertise with swim swim swim I SAY’s Fear of Water to Loving the Water Swimming Classes.”

Swim swim swim I SAY teaches tots, children and adults swimming and water safety. What makes swim swim swim I SAY unique compared to other swimming companies is their Fear of Water to Loving the Water Swimming program that they wrote, copyrighted and trademarked. In addition, swim swim swim I SAY instructs individuals with Special Needs that most companies will not work with or have little experience working with. “We will make a significant impact directly on the highly published minority drowning rates noted by the Make a Splash Foundation. Not only will the fear of water students be more comfortable in the water and be turned into loving the water students but all beginning level students will gain greater confidence in the water and learn to be safe in and around the water. The grant will help mark our 4th anniversary by giving back more than our private scholarships to the surrounding community. We will truly make a greater impact with this grant.”
Swim swim swim I SAY will also kick off on May 18th the 2013 Make a Splash Tour with Cullen Jones presented by Phillips 66 in Harlem, New York City. “What a year for us; the grant and then the opportunity to actually kick off at a pool in Harlem this year’s Make a Splash Tour with a guest speaker to address our swimmers is a once in a life time experience. Water safety awareness will be brought to the forefront right here in Harlem. On May 18th, we will be on the map for something that has never happened here before. And on May 16th, the lighting in blue of the Empire State Building will let NYC know water safety awareness needs our immediate attention.”

The Make a Splash Foundation, an “arm” of the USA Swimming Foundation, is dedicated to decreasing the drowning rates of children and specifically minorities. Make a Splash provides money through grants to their local partners, like swim swim swim I SAY, to provide low cost lessons or scholarships for free swimming instruction in many urban and high minority areas.
